Talking to Cristina Ruiz

Have you ever felt fighting uncomfortable or painful feelings? Or struggling with a problem that it never seems to leave your mind? Or finding yourself repeating the same self-destructive patterns and not managing to break the vicious circle?

When faced with struggling situations, problems or difficulties either at work or in our private lives, we experience stress, anxiety, low mood, depression, anger, jealousy and many other negative emotions. These situations may lead to a loss of self-esteem, confidence, motivation, etc. When these emotions and this negative patterns have an impact on our relationships, work or quality of life, it may be a sign to do something about it.

My aim, within a professional therapeutic framework and scientific evidence, is to create a safe and supportive space where problems, goals and aspirations, thoughts, feelings and behaviors are considered and can be openly discussed. This is always accompanied with suitable guidance and learning of new skills to develop a healthier and more useful attitude to life difficulties.

Likewise, while no one doubts that exercise is healthy for our organism or a good body posture prevents potential back problems, etc. This very same hypothesis applies to human psychology from an emotional and behavioral point of view. Try and imagine that the brain is an organ that must be exercised to work more effectively.

In this light, we can imagine the patient as an athlete who, although he is able to run, he may not have the proper technique for doing so effectively. The therapist's task is to identify where the problem lies and facilitate personalized exercises to improve performance. And as you may guess, obviously the "patient-athlete" would go for it if he wants to improve!
